Roth Campaign debuts new television ad

Appleton—The Roth for Congress Campaign debuted a new television ad today entitled “He’s One of Us.”

The ad gives a glimpse into Roth’s everyday life–his truck, his home, his family–and lets viewers know that one of Roth’s main priorities in Congress will be to rein in out-of-control government spending and get Americans working again so that we can preserve our great nation for future generations of Americans.

“He’s One of Us”

Roger Roth: (pulls into driveway) This is my ’93 Ford Ranger.  Soon I’ll be getting collector’s plates.

Roger Roth: (walks through home; greets family in backyard) This is my home.  And this is my family.

Roger Roth: I’m Roger Roth, and this is why I’m running for Congress.  Washington has lost touch with the families back home.  We have out of control bailouts and stimulus that do nothing to create jobs.  It’s time we put Americans back to work.  It’s common sense.

Roger Roth: I’m Roger Roth, and I approve this message; and I’d be honored to have your vote on September 14th.

Former Green Bay Packer Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila endorses Roth for Congress

Appleton—Green Bay Packer all-time sack leader Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“I am thrilled to support Roger because, more than anything, he listens to the people,” said Gbaja-Biamila.  “I’ve personally dealt with Steve Kagen and other politicians, and they just don’t listen.”

“Roger is a man of integrity, a God-fearing man, and a man who cares about the country and the people of northeast Wisconsin,” said Gbaja-Biamila.

Gbaja Biamila played for the Green Bay Packers from 2000-2008.  He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2003, and he is the all-time leader in sacks for the Packer organization.

“It is an honor and a privilege to stand beside Roger and support him and his conservative message as he takes on Steve Kagen,” said Gbaja-Biamila.

“Kabeer was a great football player, and he is an even better community leader,” said Roth.  “I am honored to have his support.”

Statement on President Obama’s speech on Iraq

Appleton—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth issued the following statement after President Obama officially marked the end of combat operations in Iraq with his prime time address to the nation:

“Last night, President Obama officially marked the end of the combat phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“Having served three tours of duty in Iraq, I can say without question that the men and women who fought to remove a brutal dictator from power, help stabilize the region and provide a better life for the oppressed Iraqi people are the best our nation has to offer.

“It is because of the sacrifices of these fine men and women that America is a free and prosperous nation whose best days are still before her.”

Outagamie County Executive Toby Paltzer trusts Roth in WI 8th

Appleton—Outagamie County Executive Toby Paltzer is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“We need more leaders in government like Roger who understand that local decisions are best made on the local level,” said Paltzer.  “Roger knows this district, and he knows that his job in Congress will be to listen to the people of northeast Wisconsin so that he can learn from them and lead out in Washington.”

“As county executive, I pay close attention to the state legislature, and Roger has done a tremendous job in Madison over the past four years,” said Paltzer.

Paltzer has served as Outagamie County Executive since 1999.

“Our nation and our region are at a crossroads, and I see it every day as county executive,” said Paltzer.  “Northeast Wisconsin is in desperate need of a real leader who is willing to fight and make the tough decisions, and that is why Roger Roth has my vote and my full support.”

“Everybody from Outagamie County knows that Toby has been a great leader in our community, and I am truly honored to have his backing,” said Roth.

50 cities for $50,000 in debt

Appleton—Congressman Steve Kagen is embarking on a four day, 50 city tour across the 8th District, presumably to explain to voters why his reckless policies have saddled each American with over $50,000 in government debt.

“It’s going to take a heck of a lot more than a 50 city tour to convince voters that four years of failed policies are worthy of their support,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

In just four short years, Steve Kagen’s votes in Washington have increased deficit spending by over a trillion dollars, raised our national debt by billions and threatened to ship millions of American jobs overseas with disastrous policies such as Cap and Trade.

“With only two months between now and election day, Steve Kagen is quickly realizing that he was dead wrong when he said that 8th District voters are ‘confused’,” said Roth.

“There’s nothing confusing about crippling debts and deficits and over a $50,000 dollar government mortgage on every American,” said Roth.

Americans for Legal Immigration endorses Roth in Wisconsin’s 8th CD

Appleton—The Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee (ALIPAC) is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District race.

President of ALIPAC William Gheen said the organization is happy that Roth has “chosen to represent the vast majority of American voters that favor immigration enforcement instead of any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

Roth has always advocated securing our borders and enforcing existing immigration law, and his record in the state legislature proves it.

In the state Assembly, Roth authored legislation to ban sanctuary cities that harbor illegal aliens in Wisconsin, and he fought to ensure that prisoners who are in this country illegally be deported instead of put back on the streets when they are released from jail.

ALIPAC is dedicated to fighting against illegal immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens while seeking a peaceful solution to the crisis that involves Americans of every race, Party, and denomination working together.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of an organization dedicated to stopping the flow of illegal immigrants into this country while recognizing that amnesty is not the answer,” said Roth.

“Because I have always been a strong proponent of securing our borders and I have never supported amnesty, it wouldn’t be surprising if other pro-amnesty groups endorsed those running against me in this race,” said Roth.

Roth clear winner at WTAQ candidate forum

Green Bay—At an 8th Congressional District candidate forum on Friday, state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth continued to separate himself from Reid Ribble and Terri McCormick while highlighting immigration reform and the need to rein in out-of-control government spending and get Americans working again.

“Unlike one of my opponents, I have always been a strong proponent of securing our borders, I have never supported amnesty, and my position has never wavered,” said Roth.  “Securing our borders and enforcing existing immigration law have always been priorities of mine, and they will be in Washington too.”

On spending, Roth said, “Forty-three cents of every dollar Congress spends is borrowed, and it’s bankrupting our country.”

“Congress spends and spends without a care in the world, simply kicking the can down the road for future generations to deal with.  Problem is, what was once a tin can is now a 50 gallon drum,” said Roth.

When asked about the economy, Roth said it is imperative that we elect representatives who will champion pro-growth policies that will get Americans working again.

“Government doesn’t create jobs, it creates debt,” said Roth.

“Unless we change the makeup of Congress, we’re going to see job killing tax increases on middle class families, on investment income, on energy and on the death tax,” said Roth.

“My promise to you is that in Washington, I will fight for sensible tax and environmental policies that will get government out of the way and allow the private sector to thrive again,” said Roth.

Former State Rep. Joe Handrick endorses Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Minocqua—Former state Representative and current Minocqua Town Chairman Joe Handrick has endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“I have met all of the candidates in this race, and Roger is my choice because of his life experiences, his leadership ability and his commitment to conservatism,” said Handrick.

“Northeast Wisconsin thrives on manufacturing, tourism and logging, and Roger has proven to me that he not only understands the needs of the 8th District, but that he will fight for sensible economic, tax and environmental policies that will allow our region to prosper,” said Handrick.

Handrick served three terms in the state Assembly from 1994 to 2000, and he currently serves as the Minocqua Town Chairman.

“While politicians may forget about us up here in the northwoods, Roger has visited this area many times,” said Handrick. “I know that he is one of us and that he will keep our region and our interests in mind with every vote he takes in Washington.”

“Joe Handrick knows northern Wisconsin as well as anybody, and I look forward to fighting alongside him as we work to restore common sense, conservative values to Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District,” said Roth.

Statement on last combat brigade leaving Iraq

Appleton—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth issued the following statement after the last American combat brigade left Iraq yesterday:

“As our final combat brigade leaves Iraq, I think it is important that we remember two things: these brave men and women did a noble thing in removing a brutal dictator from power; and many sacrificed all they had so that the Iraqi people could stand on their own two feet as a free and democratic society.”

Roth has been endorsed by Combat Veterans for Congress, Iraq Veterans for Congress, and the NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC.

Statement on jobless claims reaching 500,000

Appleton—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth issued the following statement after the U.S. Labor Department announced today that jobless claims in the United States have reached half a million:

“The failed policies of Steve Kagen and the Democrats in Washington have resulted in a grim bench mark today as our nation’s jobless claims have reached the half million mark.

“Rather than doing everything in their power to get Americans working again, the Pelosi-led Congress has consistently thrown money we don’t have at the problem with bailouts and so called ‘stimulus projects.’

“Worse, Congress has dithered and refused to act on the tax cuts that are set to expire, which has completely drained confidence from the market.  With so much uncertainty, there are very few hiring decisions being made.

“Unless we change the current makeup of Congress this November and elect leaders who are serious about enacting sensible environmental and tax policies that allow the private sector to flourish and get government out of the way of business, hard working Americans will continue to find themselves in the unemployment line.”

State Rep. Jeff Mursau backs Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Crivitz—State Representative Jeff Mursau (R-Crivitz) is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“I know that Roger Roth is ready to lead in Washington from day one because I saw him do it in Madison when he was first elected in 2006,” said Mursau.  “Roger came to Madison with core conservative values and a steadfast belief system, and he has stuck to those principles in his four years of service.”

“Roger made two things clear from day one,” said Mursau.  “He wasn’t going to simply fall in line and vote lock step with the majority, and he was going to take care of the people in his district before anything else.”

Mursau was first elected to the State Assembly in 2004, and he is currently serving his third term in office.

“I will vote for Roger Roth because I know that a vote for him is a vote for conservative leadership that can’t be bought or swayed by the special interests or party politics,” said Mursau.

“Jeff Mursau is a true conservative down in Madison, and I am honored to have him by my side in our fight to return common sense, conservative values to Wisconsin’s 8th District,” said Roth.

Combat Veterans for Congress endorses Roth for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District

The Combat Veterans for Congress Political Action Committee is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District race.

Co-founder and chairman of Combat Veterans for Congress Joseph R. John said, “A Veteran is someone who, at one point of his life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount ‘up to and including his life.’  After reviewing former SSgt Roth’s positions and experience, we are thrilled to support his run for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.”

Roth, the only candidate in the 8th District race with military experience, served in the Air National Guard from 2003 to January, 2010 and was deployed to the Middle East four times, including three tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Combat Veterans for Congress PAC is dedicated to supporting the election of fiscally conservative combat veterans to Congress who believe in limited government, will rein in the out of control spending in Washington, and are committed to preserving and defending the US Constitution.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Combat Veterans for Congress because these are the men and women who have served on the front lines defending our way of life and who really know what’s at stake this November,” said Roth.

“I have served alongside these brave men and women, and I understand the sacrifices they endure,” said Roth.  “I am committed to being their voice in Washington.”

Roth has also been endorsed by the NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC and Iraq Veterans for Congress.

Yet another tale of two Kagen’s

Appleton—On July 21st, Steve Kagen proudly proclaimed in a press release that “There would be no more bailouts,” even after he had just voted for one under the guise of Wall Street reform.

A few short weeks later on August 10th, Kagen has struck again—this time voting in favor of a $26 billion bailout for the states (H.R. 1586).

“Over the past four years, we have constantly seen a tale of two Kagen’s,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

“When he’s campaigning in Wisconsin, he speaks like a conservative, but when he’s out in Washington he votes for bailouts, massive tax and spending increases and job killing policies,” said Roth.

Kagen has deliberately gone against the will of his constituents time after time by voting for disastrous policies such as ObamaCare, Cap and Trade and bailouts of all kinds.

“Parading around the district as a conservative a few weeks before election day isn’t going to make people forget four years of bad votes and broken campaign promises,” said Roth.  “Actions speak louder than words.”

Former 8th District GOP Chair Bill Ross endorses Roth for Congress following Shawano Forum

Shawano—Former 8th District Republican Party chairman Bill Ross is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“Roger Roth is a proven Conservative who is steadfast in his convictions,” said Ross.  “After seeing him speak last night about the issues facing our nation, I have no doubt that the tremendous job he’s done in Madison is just a preview of what he’ll accomplish in Washington.”

“Roger is such an exciting candidate because he possesses a rare combination of experience and energy that Washington lacks,” said Ross.  “He has proven himself as a fighter, a leader and a hard worker, and we need members of Congress who will represent us, the people, like Roger has done in the state legislature.”

Ross is the immediate past chairman of the 8th District Republican Party, and he remains extremely active in Shawano County and 8th District politics.

“I have seen all of the candidates and heard their pitches, but when Roger speaks it’s different,” said Ross.  “When you talk to Roger, you are talking to a man who cares about this district and this country, and who is actually capable of making a difference and righting our current course.”

“Bill Ross has served the 8th District well, and I am honored to have the support of a man who knows what it takes to win and to be successful in northeast Wisconsin,” said Roth.

Iraq Veterans for Congress endorses Roth for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District

Appleton—The Iraq Veterans for Congress political action committee is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District race.

According to Iraq Veterans for Congress founder Kieran Michael Lalor, “Roger Roth is an outstanding candidate and will make a spectacular Congressman because he possesses a rare combination of military, business and political experience.”

“I am honored to have the endorsement of the Iraq Veterans for Congress because these are the men and women who have served on the front lines defending our way of life and who really know what’s at stake this November,” said Roth.

Roth, the only candidate in the 8th District race with military experience, served in the Air National Guard from 2003 to January, 2010 and was deployed to the Middle East four times, including three tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Roth has also been endorsed by the NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC.

Lalor noted that, “Most importantly, because of his war experience Roger Roth has already demonstrated selfless service to country and that attribute is desperately needed in Washington.”

“I have served alongside these brave men and women, and I know they are the best our country has to offer,” said Roth.  “Their support means the world to me, and I am committed to being their voice in Washington.”

Statement on July jobs report

Appleton—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth issued the following statement concerning reports that the private sector added just 71,000 jobs in July (down from 83,000 in June) and that the economy as a whole lost 131,000 jobs last month:

“More than a year and a half after Steve Kagen and the Democrats in Washington passed their trillion dollar ‘economic stimulus package’ with promises of job creation and a stronger economy, we continue to see our nation shedding jobs at a rapid pace.  Unemployment is at 9.5 percent nationwide, and it is even worse in parts of northeast Wisconsin.

“Unless we change the current makeup of Congress this November and elect leaders who are serious about enacting sensible environmental and tax policies that allow the private sector to flourish and get government out of the way of business, our economy will continue to suffer.”

Former State Rep. John Ainsworth says Roth is clear choice for Congress in WI 8th

Shawano—Former State Representative John Ainsworth is endorsing state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“I have been in this business a long time, and it is rare that you find a candidate like Roger Roth who is the total package,” said Ainsworth.

“He has experience in all facets of life, ranging from his service in the Air Force to his experience in the state legislature and as a small business owner, but most importantly he’s honest, he’s sincere and he’s doing the work necessary to win,” said Ainsworth.

“For example, Roger was the only candidate from the 8th District who bothered to show up at the Shawano County Republican Party Picnic, and he stayed the whole time,” said Ainsworth. “He genuinely cares about meeting the people and learning their concerns, and that sort of dedication to public service will prove to be invaluable in Washington.”

Ainsworth served eight terms in the State Assembly, representing Wisconsin’s 6th Assembly District from 1990 to 2006.

“John Ainsworth is a tireless public servant who just wants what’s best for our state and our country, and I am honored to have his support,” said Roth.

Kagen only fooling himself with misleading press releases

Appleton—Last week, Steve Kagen issued a press release entitled “Kagen stands up again for Wisconsin manufacturing jobs.”

Apparently Kagen has forgotten about his vote in favor of Cap and Trade legislation just over a year ago.

“With just three months between now and election day, Steve Kagen is desperately trying to sell himself as a conservative who cares about job creation and our manufacturing industry,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

“Problem is, his record tells a different story,” said Roth.

Last June, Kagen voted in favor of Cap and Trade legislation that he admitted would be detrimental to northeast Wisconsin’s manufacturing and farming industries.

According to the National Federation of Independent Business, proposed Cap and Trade legislation will cost our nation over five million jobs and raise energy prices by 40% for the average homeowner.

“Yet again, we have a tale of two Kagen’s,” said Roth. “He can grandstand all he wants through press releases and on the campaign trail, but come November the voters will have a choice.”

“When you put Steve Kagen’s record in Washington up against my record in Madison, I am confident that the people of northeast Wisconsin will find my values are more in line with their own,” said Roth.

On to November…

Roth Campaign opens Green Bay office

Green Bay—The Roth for Congress team is set to open up a Green Bay campaign office at 2113 S. Oneida Street, just blocks away from historic Lambeau Field.

“Since we announced our candidacy in December of 2009 our campaign has been growing at a rapid pace, including the addition of hundreds of volunteers to our campaign team,” said Roth.

“It is important that we provide our hundreds of volunteers with another location where they can organize to help defeat Steve Kagen and restore common sense, conservative values to northeast Wisconsin,” said Roth.

Prior to housing the Roth Campaign’s Green Bay office, the location served as the campaign headquarters for the late Dr. Marc Trager who endorsed Roth’s campaign after leaving the race for health reasons in June.

“There are only 92 days between now and election day, and there is still much work to be done.  I humbly ask for your support and your help as we expand our operations to Green Bay and continue to spread our message of limited government, fiscal responsibility and accountability in Washington,” said Roth.

To meet Roger face to face, learn more about the campaign, and help defeat Steve Kagen, please visit the Roth for Congress Green Bay office Grand Opening at 6 P.M. on Monday, August 2nd.

Statement on Marc Savard leaving 8th District Race

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement concerning Marc Savard’s withdrawal from the 8th District Race:

“Marc Savard worked hard over the past year and a half to get his message out, and he always ran a clean and honest campaign.  I wish him and his family all the best.”

Roth Campaign announces formation of Veterans and Military Coalition

Appleton—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth has announced the formation of a grassroots coalition of veterans and serving members of the military who support his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

The “Veterans for Roth” Coalition is co-chaired by Joe Cahill and Dale McNamee.

Cahill served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring as a master chief petty officer, the highest grade an enlisted sailor can attain.  His service included 15 years of sea duty and four tours of service in Vietnam.

McNamee is a retired Army officer whose 28 year career includes service in both the Regular Army and as a full time Wisconsin Army National Guardsmen.  He served in combat with the 172 Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Mosul, Iraq and with the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan.

“Roger Roth holds the same values that I and other veterans do, simply because he is one of us,” said Cahill.

Roth, the only candidate in the 8th Congressional race with military experience, served as a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard from 2003 until January, 2010, including three tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“I am honored to have the support of so many veterans,” said Roth.  “In Washington, I will work hard to ensure our fighting men and women have the weapon systems, equipment and other support they need to decisively win on the battlefield.”

“And when they return, I will fight to make sure they receive the first-class medical care and other benefits they have earned,” added Roth.  “As someone who has served in combat, I know the real cost of war, and I will authorize the use of force only when it is in the best interest of the American people.”

Veterans interested in learning more about Roger Roth or joining “Veterans for Roth” should visit his website at www.rothforcongress.com.

NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC ENDORSES ROGER ROTH FOR ELECTION TO WISCONSIN 8TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Today, NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC announced their endorsement of  Roger Roth for election to the U. S. Congress from the 8th Congressional District of  Wisconsin.  NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC Chairman, Rear Admiral [Ret.] James J. Carey stated, “Roger Roth has NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC’s full support for election to the U.S. Congress.  He served our country in the Air National Guard, putting himself on the line to defend our nation when called, and is committed to keeping the promises made to our veterans when they agreed to risk their lives to face America’s enemies.  Roger is who we want in Congress making decisions that impact our military veterans and today’s young Americans serving in our Armed Forces.  He, as an Iraq veteran, understands what it takes to train, fight and win.  He also understands the importance of ensuring the decision to commit our military is right before we send our Nation’s most precious asset, our sons and daughters, into harm’s way.”

Roger is a former member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard with four tours to the Middle East during his career.   He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2006 and won the Republican Primary with 60% of the vote.  He was re-elected in 2008 and is now serving out his second term.  Roger is the ranking member on the Housing Committee, and member of the Assembly Insurance Committee, Law Revision Committee, Elections and Campaign Reform, Special Committee on High Risk Juveniles, and Task Force for preventing home foreclosures.

Admiral Carey stated, “The 8th Congressional District of Wisconsin is home to many military veterans and an equally significant number of men and women, both active duty, guard & reserve, serving in the military today.  They need Roger representing them in Congress.  NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC intends to do all it can to help make that happen”.

Colonel (Ret.) Craig Carlson, National Defense PAC Executive Director, stated, “NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC has earned a reputation for endorsing winning candidates because we back men and women that have proven integrity forged in patriotic selfless military service.  The American people trust our military and vote for our candidates.  Our goal in 2010 is to endorse as many candidates that can meet our standard, and elect them all.”

Appleton business leader Tim Higgins endorses Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Appleton—Appleton business leader Tim Higgins has endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“Congressman Kagen has supported the disastrous policies of Speaker Nancy Pelosi nearly all of the time,” said Higgins.  “We need someone like Roger Roth who has proven himself as a legislative leader, not a follower, and who has values that are much closer to those of the people of northeast Wisconsin than Kagen’s.”

“I think people sometimes lose sight of the fact that experience makes a difference in politics, just like in every other line of work.  Would anyone seriously consider electing a district attorney who had no legal background?  Roger’s shown he has the ability to work within legislative constraints and still get things done,” said Higgins.

Higgins owns ChiRho Services, a consulting and research business.

“It is time for a new generation of conservative leaders. Roger has owned a small business, served in Iraq and fought for us in the state legislature,” said Higgins.  “He may be younger than most who run for office, but he has made his mark.  He’s the kind of person that younger people can emulate and older people can trust.”

“Tim has served our community for years as a business and civic leader, and I know that with the help of him and others we can restore common sense, conservative leadership to Wisconsin’s 8th District,” said Roth.

Americans for Prosperity: Applauds U.S. House candidate Roger Roth

Milwaukee —The Wisconsin chapter of the free market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP-WI) today applauded U.S. House candidate, and current state representative, Roger Roth (8th District) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” Roth joins more than 650 bipartisan lawmakers and candidates on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “ oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”

“The one thing elected officials should be able to agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses,” said AFP-WI State Director Mark Block. “We encourage all of Wisconsin’s elected officials and candidates for office to sign the pledge.”

Cap-and-trade took its first step toward enactment last year when the U.S. House narrowly passed the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill, which escaped the lower chamber by a scant seven votes despite significant bipartisan opposition. The Senate has struggled to pass companion legislation, with several Democratic senators expressing opposition to attempting to pass the energy tax bill.

President Obama has made no secret of his support for the bill, which would be the largest tax increase in American history. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has scored the House plan as an $846 billion increase in federal revenue, a burden that will be borne by taxpayers and consumers for decades to come. Recent analysis by the Institute for Energy Research found the Kerry-Lieberman Senate bill would cost the nation more than 500,000 jobs by 2015 and decrease household income by over $1,000 by 2020.

“Using the guise of climate change to transfer dollars from hard-working citizens to bureaucratic big government is unacceptable,” said Block. “Regardless of their stance on global warming, this should be common ground for all of our elected officials at all levels of government.”

Northwoods Patriots choose Roth for Congress

Eagle River—The Northwoods Patriots, a grassroots Tea Party group in Eagle River, overwhelmingly threw their support behind state Representative Roger Roth and his bid for Congress during their 8th District straw poll.

Roth, who is running against Steve Kagen this fall, garnered nearly half of the ballots cast for Republican Primary candidates while capturing 45.96% of the vote.

“I am honored to have the support of so many of the Northwoods Patriots, a group that embodies what’s right in America by standing up for faith, family and country like their motto so accurately describes,” said Roth.

Roth, who has made it a priority to visit every part of the 8th District, has been to Eagle River and the north woods multiple times since announcing his candidacy in December of ’09.

“Every stop we’ve made on our campaign has been important, whether it’s in Green Bay or Arbor Vitae,” said Roth.  “We are working to meet all 670,000 8th District residents, and I think the Northwoods Patriots straw poll is just more proof of our efforts”

Kagen votes for more bailouts; misleads constituents

Appleton—Steve Kagen is flaunting his vote in favor of the recently enacted financial reform bill.

Problem is, the flawed legislation provides an enormous safety net for Wall Street’s risky behavior and does nothing to prevent Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from causing another financial meltdown.

“Steve Kagen is issuing press releases and making the rounds to media outlets in an effort to promote legislation that rewards risky behavior by Wall Street and ignores the problems that got us into this mess in the first place,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

In a written statement, Kagen said:

“…there will be no more bank bailouts…banks must pay for their own mistakes, not taxpayers;”

“The comments made by Steve Kagen are completely false,” said Roth.  “The bill that he voted for practically writes Wall Street a blank check by giving the government the power to bailout any bank they choose with loans, asset purchases and payments to creditors.”

Kagen also said:

“I voted no to big bailouts of Wall Street banks, and I worked hard on this legislation to make certain that the Big Banks will be forced to pay for their own mistakes-not taxpayers.”

“Only in Washington can a Congressman pat himself on the back for voting against bailouts after he has—you guessed it—just voted for more bailouts!” said Roth.

State Rep. John Nygren endorses Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Marinette—State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette) has endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“Over the past four years, I have come to know Roger as a man of integrity who has always fought for common sense, conservative values while standing up to the special interests and out-of-control spenders in Madison,” said Nygren.

“As a state legislator and small business owner, I understand the importance of keeping spending in line and promoting pro-growth policies.  Roger also knows this because of his small business experience in the construction industry, and he has always championed a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda in the state Assembly,” Nygren said.

Nygren and Roth have served together in Madison since they were both elected in 2006, and each has remained a conservative voice for their constituents.

“Roger Roth is a true leader with a track record of standing up to the special interests and even his own party if they disagreed on principle.  I support Roger because I trust him, and I know that he will be a conservative voice in Washington from day one,” concluded Nygren.

“John Nygren is a man of principle who always puts the interests of the people he represents first when casting his votes in Madison, and I look forward to fighting alongside him as we work to restore common sense, conservative values to Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District,” said Roth.

99 days to accountability, reform and common sense government

Appleton—With only 99 days between now and election day, the Roth Campaign is continuing their grassroots march to victory and spreading their message of limited government, fiscal restraint and private sector job creation across northeast Wisconsin.

“The good people of the 8th District have made up their minds: Steve Kagen has got to go,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

“Now it is our job over the next 99 days to bring our message to the people and show them that there is a more responsible and honest way to govern,” said Roth.

Though Steve Kagen promises to uphold fiscal responsibility and Wisconsin values on the campaign trail, in Washington he has proudly cast his vote in favor of ObamaCare, voted for cap and trade legislation that will cripple northeast Wisconsin’s farming and manufacturing industries, and added over a quarter of a trillion dollars to our debt in 2010 alone.

“Americans everywhere are fed up with politics as usual in Washington, and northeast Wisconsin is no different,” said Roth.  “I ask you to join with me over the next 99 days as we fight to restore common sense, conservative values to Wisconsin’s 8th District and send Steve Kagen packing on November 2nd.”

Small businessman Blong Yang endorses Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Appleton—Fox Valley business leader Blong Yang has endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“Roger has been my state Representative since 2006, and he has done a tremendous job in the state legislature fighting for the rights of small business owners like myself,” said Yang.

“Because Roger grew up working in his family’s construction business, he knows the pressure small businesses face when out of touch politicians like Steve Kagen constantly champion policies that are anti-jobs and anti-growth,” said Yang.

Yang has been a resident of the Fox Valley for almost thirty years, and he has more than a decade of small business experience while serving as a local insurance agent.

“Roger has always stood up against the special interests in Madison, and he has proven that he answers to the people he represents and nobody else,” said Yang.  “We need an experienced leader like Roger Roth who will hit the ground running and be ready to lead in Washington from day one.”

“Blong has been a trusted community leader for decades who knows what the people of northeast Wisconsin are looking for in their representatives, and I am honored to have his endorsement,” said Roth.

Democrats come clean on ObamaCare tax

Appleton—Despite claims from Steve Kagen, Congressional Democrats and the Obama administration that ObamaCare’s health insurance mandate was not a tax, lawyers for the President are now arguing otherwise.

“It’s unfortunate that it took a lawsuit for the Democrats in Washington to be honest and forthright with the American people and admit what we’ve already known for months,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

In a brief filed with the court after 20 states and numerous private organizations challenged the Constitutionality of the law, Justice Department lawyers argue that the insurance mandate is a “valid exercise” of Congress’s taxation powers.

Roth, who says that the majority of Congress has lost all credibility with the American people because they lack honesty and integrity, believes that this is just the latest example of politics as usual in Washington.

“We have a Congress that no longer listens to the people they seek to represent,” Roth said.

“What’s worse is that they deliberately mislead their constituents when they feel the need to advance their reckless agenda,” Roth said.  “With your help, we will send Steve Kagen packing on November 2nd and restore accountability and truthfulness to Wisconsin’s 8th District.”

Joyce and Otto Bytof endorse Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Appleton business leaders Joyce and Otto Bytof have endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“I have known the Roth family for years, and Roger is a man of character who has lived a life of service as a homebuilder in Appleton, as a member of the Air Force in Iraq, and as a conservative state legislator in Madison.  Like his uncle, former Congressman Toby Roth, he will represent this district and not the special interests in Washington,” said Joyce.

Her husband, Otto, echoed those sentiments: “Roger is a man of honesty and integrity who sincerely wants to continue to fight to make our country a better place for future generations.”

The Bytof’s have made a name for themselves in the business community for over 50 years, and their family business, The Real Estate Group LLC, has grown into the largest real estate company in northeast Wisconsin.

“Without a doubt I can say that Roger Roth has the ability, experience and proper intentions to represent us in Washington and be the conservative voice we need,” concluded Joyce.

“I am honored to have the backing of Joyce and Otto,” said Roth.  “They have helped make the Fox Valley what it is today through their hard work and leadership in the community.”

Fact checking the out-of-touch Steve Kagen

Appleton—After reading comments Steve Kagen made last week in the Shawano newspaper, state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth issued the following wake up call to the out of touch Congressman.  Kagen said:

“We’re not going to pay off our debt until people have jobs.”

Roth responded: “Government doesn’t create jobs, it only creates debt.  Private sector job creation is paramount to getting our economy back on track, but it should not be tied to our skyrocketing debt and deficit.  Getting spending in line requires living within our means and balancing our budget, not grandstanding on the campaign trail.”

According to the article:

“Kagen also noted the country’s debt could be traced to two wars, tax cuts for the wealthy and Medicare Part D.”

Roth responded: “Kagen’s logic is completely and utterly false.  In 2007—around seven years after the wars began and the tax cuts and Medicare Part D program were implemented—our deficit stood at just $161 billion.  That means that in just two short years, Obama and the Democrats have raised our deficit by more than 900 billion dollars and pushed us over the trillion dollar mark with their out of control spending.”

Kagen said:

“…the present Congress has been more fiscally responsible.  The single greatest thing we did is re-institute Pay As You Go.”

Roth responded: “Raising the debt ceiling two trillion dollars and increasing federal spending by over 20 percent since 2008 is not fiscally responsible.  Pay-Go is nothing but a sham where Congress changes the rules to pass “emergency spending” every time they need to feed their addiction to wasteful spending.  Over a quarter of a trillion dollars in deficit spending since the new Pay-Go rules were instituted this February tells me there’s more holes in it than Swiss cheese.”

U.S. Navy veteran Joe Cahill endorses Roth for Congress in WI 8th

Appleton—U.S. Navy veteran Joe Cahill has endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in his bid to unseat Steve Kagen in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“When I look at Washington, I see a government that refuses to admit that we are fighting a war on terror, and we need to elect veterans like Roger Roth who have served on the front lines and understand what’s at stake,” said Cahill.

“I served in the Vietnam War, and I know that the experience and lessons that Roger learned while serving in Iraq have made him the type of leader that Congress sorely needs,” Cahill said.

Cahill served in the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy.

“As an Iraq War Veteran and state legislator, Roger knows all about duty, honor and sacrifice, and that is why he is the only man I trust to represent us out in Washington and lead from day one,” said Cahill.

“Joe is a real hero who has dedicated his life to his country, and I look forward to fighting alongside him as we work to restore common sense, conservative values to Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District,” said Roth.

Roth continues grassroots march to victory

Appleton—The Roth Campaign has raised over $177,000 to date after easily surpassing its first quarter fundraising totals, having raised over $69,000 during the second quarter with more than $87,000 cash on hand.

To date, 97 percent of Roth’s contributions have come from Wisconsin, with 77 percent coming from the 8th District.

While the financial support the campaign has received is impressive, nothing in this race matches the volunteer and community support state Representative Roth has received from across the 8th District.

“The most important asset our campaign has is the fine people who are with us across this great district,” Roth said.

Since January 1st, the Roth Campaign has knocked on well over 50,000 doors in all 15 counties of the 8th District, made thousands of volunteer phone calls and visited hundreds of community events ranging from the Fox Valley to Washington Island and all the way up to Presque Isle.

Two weekends ago, the campaign took part in 26 Independence Day parades over just two days.

“I believe a good representative needs to know this district and meet with the voters at their door steps and in their communities.  A representative who knows the people of this district will remember each and every one of them as he casts his votes in Washington,” said Roth.

“Not only do we have the money to carry us through election day, but we have the organization, support and work ethic that money can’t buy,” Roth said.

Kagen fails with stimulus vote

Appleton—At a forum this week in Green Bay, multiple local officials and citizens agreed: the so called “stimulus bill” that Steve Kagen voted for has failed to create jobs.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt said, “…if the main objective was job creation, I don’t know that we reached that goal.”

“Right here in our own backyard, we see that Democrat promises of job creation and a healthy economy have fallen completely flat,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

Brown County Executive Tom Hinz said that many of the programs not chosen for aid would have better achieved the original goal of the stimulus money, which was to create jobs.

“Like any big government program, it is clear that mismanagement and poor decision making prevented any real benefits,” Roth said.

And Green Bay citizen Tom Sladek said that all the forum did was confirm for him that “most of the stimulus money was a waste.”

“In the end, all the so called stimulus left us with is near ten percent unemployment and another $700 billion in debt for our children and grand children to worry about,” said Roth.

Illegal Immigration; a $113 billion problem

Appleton—According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, illegal immigration is costing the U.S. an astounding $113 billion a year.

“Not only is Washington addicted to spending, but they are turning a blind eye to a $113 billion problem that could easily be fixed if Congress had the will to do so,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Appleton.

The $113 billion amounts to $1,117 for every legal household in America, and the U.S. spends nearly $8 billion a year alone on law enforcement costs relating to illegal aliens, according to the study.

Roth, who supports immigration reform that begins with securing our borders said, “Congress has ignored our illegal immigration problem for decades, and the American people literally cannot afford their inaction any longer.”

“The illegal immigration debate begins with securing our southern border, and I will fight to the hills in Washington to make sure that we protect our boundaries while promoting our legal immigration process for those in search of the American Dream,” Roth said.

Roth collects enough signatures to be on ballot seven times over

Appleton—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth has officially qualified for the ballot in Wisconsin’s 8th District, having collected over 7,000 signatures—more than seven times the required number!

“The outpouring of volunteer support we have received has been overwhelming, and the fact that we were able to collect more than seven times what we needed to get on the ballot is a testament of our organization and winning message,” Roth said.

The Roth Campaign attended multiple events to collect nomination signatures, including parades and festivals, and volunteers canvassed various neighborhoods across northeast Wisconsin.  In addition, the campaign received a remarkable number of mailed in forms from across the district which totaled thousands of names.

“We have been working with a sense of urgency since December of last year to spread our message of fiscal restraint, private sector job creation and honest government across the district, and our nomination signature push is just the latest wave in our widespread grassroots effort,” said Roth.

The Roth Campaign has visited all fifteen 8th District Counties multiple times, knocked on tens of thousands of doors and participated in community events from Appleton to Presque Isle.

“From now until election day, we are going to continue to work harder and longer than any campaign in history as we work to restore common sense, conservative values to the people of 8th District and give them the representation they deserve,” finished Roth.

Massachusetts paints grim picture for ObamaCare

Greenville—In order to see how ObamaCare will begin to influence our country once it is fully implemented in 2014, one must look no further than the disastrous effects government run universal health care have had on Massachusetts.

As a result of that plan, Massachusetts—which has seen private employer-sponsored premiums rise by about six percent—now has the highest average insurance premiums in the country!

“Not only did Steve Kagen and Congress choose to ignore the people they represent when they voted for ObamaCare, but they also ignored tell tale signs of failure coming from Massachusetts,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Greenville.

Earlier this year, President Obama said that the health care monstrosity passed by Congress is “essentially identical” to the plan Massachusetts passed in 2006.

Roth, who supports repealing and replacing the health spending bill with actual, meaningful health care reform said, “It is imperative that come November, we elect representatives with the courage to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with sensible health care reform that actually lowers premiums and addresses the real problems facing the system like transparency and tort reform.”

Time to make English the official language of the United States

Appleton—America has celebrated another birthday, and state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth is announcing plans to introduce legislation in Congress making English the official language of the United States.

“When I was elected to the state assembly, I made it a priority to pass legislation that would have made English the official language of the state of Wisconsin, and that is one of the first things I am going to do at the federal level as well,” Roth said.

In 2008, Roth introduced and passed legislation in the Wisconsin State Assembly with bi-partisan support that would have made English the official language of the state of Wisconsin.

“We’re a people from every corner of the globe, every race, religion, and cultural group; but we are one nation, one flag and one people, soon with one language that will unite future generations of Americans and ensure that we continue to prosper,” said Roth.

Kagen masquerades as conservative on immigration; 8th District voters know better

Green Bay—In a last ditch election year effort to try and distance himself from President Obama and the Democrat Majority in Congress—who he votes with 98.2 percent of time—current 8th District Congressman Steve Kagen is talking tough on immigration.

“Steve Kagen believes that the people of the 8th District are ‘confused,’ and his plan is to masquerade as a conservative between now and election day,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Green Bay.

“Unfortunately for Mr. Kagen, he has four years of budget busting votes under his belt, and he’s not fooling anybody this year,” Roth said.

Despite the fact that Steve Kagen has had four years to address our nation’s growing immigration problem, Project Vote Smart reports that Kagen has authored zero bills concerning the issue.

“There is nothing confusing about Steve Kagen’s record, and his last minute rhetoric isn’t going to save him at the ballot box from four years of inaction,” said Roth.

Statement on Administration’s lawsuit against Arizona

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement concerning the Obama Administration’s lawsuit against the state of Arizona for their recently passed immigration law:

“I think it’s unfortunate that, rather than addressing our growing illegal immigration problem, the Obama Administration has reportedly decided to play politics with the issue by filing suit against the state of Arizona for doing nothing more than enforcing existing federal law.

After all, it was years of inaction by the federal government that forced the people of Arizona to act in the first place.

Until we elect leaders with the courage and conviction to stand up and enforce both our borders and existing immigration law, we are going to continue to suffer from a weakened national security, misguided policies and lax immigration standards.

Mr. President, rather than sue Arizona, why not work to fix the problem?”

Wisconsin Right to Life endorses Roth for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District

Appleton—Wisconsin Right to Life has endorsed state Representative Roger Roth in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District race.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Wisconsin Right to Life, an organization that has dedicated itself to promoting a culture of life and protecting those who cannot protect themselves,” said Roth.

This marks the third straight election that Roth has been endorsed by Wisconsin Right to Life, and he has a 100 percent rating from the organization as a two-time state legislator.

“I have made it a priority to promote life issues and stand up for the unborn in Madison, and that is exactly what I will do in Washington,” Roth said.

26 parades in 30 hours

Appleton—The Roth for Congress team successfully participated in 26 Fourth of July parades spanning 30 hours, ten counties and hundreds of miles.

“Our campaign has always made it a priority to get out and meet the people of the 8th District, and we proved that again this weekend,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

“The only way you can represent the people is if you go out and meet them in their communities so that you can listen, learn and lead,” Roth said.

Over the course of the weekend, Roth for Congress volunteers endured long drives and severe weather.  At noon on Sunday, the Roth for Congress team participated in seven parades at once across northeast Wisconsin.

“From the volunteers who made so many parades possible to the people who came out to watch us march, it was a tremendous weekend and I am honored to have celebrated our nation’s birthday with so many fine people,” Roth said.

Roth for Congress team to attend 26 Fourth of July Parades across 8th District

Appleton—The Roth for Congress team will be attending 26 Fourth of July Parades in ten 8th District Counties over the holiday weekend.

“Since we announced in December, we’ve been spreading our message of common sense, conservative government across the 8th District,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

“If you don’t meet the people, you can’t represent them, and that is why I am out everywhere celebrating our nation’s independence with the good folks of northeast Wisconsin,” Roth said.

Roth for Congress volunteers will be participating in parades from Bonduel to Boulder Junction, and everywhere in between.

The campaign’s grassroots efforts, however, go way beyond parades.

“We’ve knocked on tens of thousands of doors, been to countless festivals and gatherings, and attended numerous community and civic events,” said Roth.

“The outpouring of volunteer support we’ve received throughout the district has been overwhelming, and our massive Fourth of July Parade push is just the latest example of our superior organization,” finished Roth.

Country loses 125,000 more jobs, Speaker Pelosi thinks it’s a good thing

Suamico—In a shocking example of just how out of touch Steve Kagen and the Democrat Majority in Congress have become, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that unemployment checks are the fastest way to create jobs.

“Using the Democrat’s flawed logic, today’s jobs report comes as welcome news,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Suamico.

According to the latest round of Labor Department statistics, employers shed 125,000 jobs in June, and our country has 7.9 million fewer private sector jobs than it did when the recession began.

“Our nation continues to lose jobs at a record pace despite massive spending projects from Washington like the failed ‘stimulus’ package,” Roth said.

“The Democrat party, who Steve Kagen votes with 98.2 percent of the time, has repeatedly proven that they are incapable of turning our economy around and getting Americans working again,” said Roth.

“You vote for me to replace Steve Kagen, and I’ll vote to replace Nancy Pelosi,” Roth concluded.

State Representative Roth comments on struggling construction industry

Green Bay—State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth met with a group of Green Bay area business leaders on Thursday to discuss the terrible effects of the poor economy on the construction industry.

“As the construction industry goes, so goes the rest of the economy,” said Roth.

“If you talk to those who build homes for a living, it doesn’t take long to realize that we’re in rough shape,” continued Roth.

According to U.S. Labor Department statistics, the construction industry lost 35,000 jobs in May, and the overall unemployment rate for homebuilders was an astonishing 20.1 percent.

Roth, who has spent his entire life working in his family’s third-generation construction business, has seen the damage Washington’s reckless policies have had on the industry firsthand.

“Thousands of my friends and colleagues have been out of work for months, and Congress does nothing but hemorrhage money as the construction industry withers away,” Roth said.

Debt will be 62 percent of GDP by year’s end

Kaukauna—According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the national debt will be 62 percent of our nation’s GDP by the end 2010.

“We have a government in Washington that is leading us down the road to financial ruin with their reckless policies and addiction to spending,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Kaukauna.

Earlier this month, the International Monetary Fund predicted that our nation’s debt would actually exceed 100 percent of our GDP by 2012.  When the Greek economy collapsed earlier this year, their debt had nearly reached an astounding 115 percent of their GDP.

Roth supports a balanced budget amendment that would force government to live within its means, and he would not have voted for out of control debt increasing measures like ObamaCare and the so called economic “stimulus package.”

“We cannot continue to elect representatives like Steve Kagen who preach fiscal responsibility at home while they mortgage the futures of our children and grand children in Washington,” Roth said.

Statement on report that Dr. Marc Trager has passed away

In response to the report that Dr. Marc Trager passed away today, state Representative Roger Roth issued the following statement:

“Dr. Trager had a profound impact on many lives as a physician, a community leader and a devoted father and husband.  His passing is a tragedy, and I will be forever grateful for the time I was able to spend with him over the past year.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Physicians fear ObamaCare will cripple ability to provide care

Appleton—ObamaCare, which does nothing to address the real problems facing our health care system such as affordability and tort reform, has left a bad taste in the mouths of doctors and is threatening to cripple the industry.

According to a recent Athena Health and Sermo survey of physicians, 79 percent of physicians are less optimistic about the future of medicine, and 66 percent said they would consider dropping out of government health programs.

“It’s unfortunate that, rather than taking into account what actual health care professionals had to say, Steve Kagen and the Democrats in Congress passed a 2,000 page monstrosity that neither doctor nor patient approve of,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth.

Roth, who would not have voted for ObamaCare, supports health care reform that lowers cost and increases access to care by tackling frivolous malpractice suits, allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines and lowering insurance premiums through free market solutions.

“I will make it a priority in Washington to repeal and replace ObamaCare with sensible, bipartisan reform that puts patients in the driver’s seat and allows doctors to do their jobs absent excessive government intervention,” Roth said.

Roth Campaign: Statement on McDonald v. City of Chicago

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement regarding today’s Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. City of Chicago:

“As an avid hunter and sportsmen as well as a strong defender of the Constitution and 2nd Amendment in the State Legislature, I applaud the Supreme Court for defending one of the most precious rights granted to us by our forefathers.

“If it wasn’t for the 2nd Amendment, we wouldn’t have any of the other rights and freedoms we cherish; and I plan on vigorously defending those rights in Washington just as I have in Madison.”

Roth Campaign: Majority of Americans unhappy with direction of country, incumbents

Eagle River—According to a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, 62 percent of Americans feel our country is on the wrong track, and 57 percent of voters support voting out their current Congressman in favor of a new representative.

“The polls continue to show what you and I have known for months; Congress isn’t listening to us, and it’s as if they don’t even care,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Eagle River.

With Congress voting in favor of reckless and unpopular policies such as ObamaCare, Cap and Trade and the so called economic “Stimulus Package,” it is no wonder that a large majority of voters have grown weary of their incumbent representative.

“You can only vote against the will of the people so many times before they say ‘enough already,’” said Roth.

“We need to take our country back and get our nation back on track.  The only way we can achieve this is to elect representatives who will enact sensible economic, environmental and border policies that will truly stimulate growth and get Americans working again,” Roth said.

Roth Campaign: Rep. Roth calls for balanced budget amendment

Green Bay—With lawmakers searching for ways to alter the budget process after House Democrats failed to pass a budget resolution for the first time since new CBO rules were adopted in 1974, state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth is calling for a balanced budget amendment.

“It’s gotten to the point where we can’t trust anybody–Democrat or Republican–to do what’s right with our tax dollars over the long term,” said Roth.

A balanced budget amendment would prevent out of touch representatives like Steve Kagen from feeding their addiction to spending with political gimmicks such as Pay-Go.

Roth, who continues to promote a balanced budget amendment as he campaigns in Green Bay today, said, “Those who represent us out in Washington have proven time and time again that they are incapable of being wise stewards of our tax dollars.”

Roth Campaign: Taxpayer money used to help illegals get paid

Appleton—At the expense of American taxpayers, the U.S. Labor Department has launched a national, bilingual ad campaign that offers assistance to illegal immigrants who believe they aren’t being properly compensated at work.

“What kind of message does this send to those who are in our country illegally as well as those who seek to sneak across our borders undetected?” state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth asked a group of voters in Appleton.

“Everyday I talk to northeast Wisconsin citizens who have been out of work for months, and what is our federal government doing about it?  Spending your hard earned tax dollars to reach out to illegal immigrants and offer them a hand in claiming wages that are being made unlawfully,” said Roth.

The ad—which is produced in both Spanish and English—seemingly contradicts existing labor law which states that employers may only hire workers who are legally in America.

“We have a government in Washington that no longer listens to the people they represent, and this is just further proof that, instead of trying everything in their power to get Americans working again, they are concerned about the rights of illegal immigrants,” Roth said.

Roth Campaign: Dem’s budget announcement foreshadows tax hike, increased spending

Grand Chute—House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) announced yesterday that Democrats won’t pass a budget resolution in 2010—for the first time since current budget rules were adopted in 1974—signaling that tax hikes and more out of control spending are on the horizon.

“We are facing near double digit unemployment along with record debts and deficits, and all the Democrats want to do is raise taxes on Americans and throw more money at the problem,” said state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth to voters in Grand Chute.

During his address, Hoyer argued against extending middle-class tax cuts, defended the wildly unsuccessful $787 billion “stimulus package” and said that “raising revenue is part of the deficit solution.”

“Let me get this straight, the government can afford to spend $787 billion on a faulty ‘stimulus package’ that did nothing to get Americans working again, but it can’t provide tax relief for the middle class?” asked Roth.

“There is a major disconnect between the Democrat’s flawed governing philosophy and the American people,” Roth said.

Roth Campaign: Kagen makes history; fails to pass budget

Appleton—For the first time since the Congressional Budget Act was passed in 1974, House Democrats are announcing today that they will not be passing an annual budget resolution in 2010.

“Steve Kagen–who votes with his Democrat Party 98.2 percent of the time–is choosing to mislead the people of northeast Wisconsin because he is afraid to show them the true cost of his reckless agenda,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, before a group of Appleton voters.

By not passing a budget resolution, Democrats in Congress are ignoring the effects our record $13 trillion debt will have past 2010, choosing to instead blindly endorse the President’s so called “Deficit Reduction Commission” plan, which is conveniently scheduled for release after Election Day.

“Unless we elect leaders with the courage to stand up for what’s right and enact sensible fiscal policy like a balanced budget amendment, Steve Kagen and the Democrats are going to continue to circumvent the rules in order to feed their addiction to spending,” said Roth.

Roth Campaign: Statement on Obama Administration’s plan to file suit against Arizona

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement concerning reports that the Obama Administration is planning to file suit against the state of Arizona for their recently passed immigration law:

Roth Campaign: Health spending bill fuels voter discontent

Appleton—Last week, Rasmussen released a survey which shows that 58 percent of Americans support repealing the health spending bill that Steve Kagen voted for and claimed to have written.

“Despite promises by Steve Kagen, Nancy Pelosi and other Democrat leaders that the American people would love the health care bill after they learned what was in it, nearly 60 percent of Americans still support its repeal,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

According to a Washington Post/ABC News Survey, just 29 percent of Americans are willing to support their incumbent House Representative, and a recent CBS News poll revealed that Congress has a dismal 15 percent approval rating.

With elections nearing and voter disdain for Democrat incumbents skyrocketing, the Obama Administration has engaged in a taxpayer funded, $125 million propaganda campaign to try and sell the health spending bill.

“Northeast Wisconsin doesn’t want an out of touch representative like Steve Kagen, and they certainly don’t want millions of their hard earned dollars being used to peddle a product they never wanted in the first place.”

“Instead of insulting the people of northeast Wisconsin last week by telling a group of supporters that his constituents are “confused,” Congressman Kagen should have been owning up to the fact that he’s the one puzzled as he continually tries to convince himself that the out of touch votes he’s taken on health care, spending and cap and trade are what the people want.  ”

Roth Campaign: Roth saves tourists a trip; showcases 8th District home

Appleton—In the wake of news reports that Congressman Steve Kagen was forced to call police on two German tourists who stumbled across what a police report describes as Kagen’s “long private driveway” in their quest to capture photos of “interesting homes,” state Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth has released a photo of his Grand Chute duplex in order to save tourist’s time.

“Northeast Wisconsin is home to many fine tourist attractions, so I figured I would save those looking to photograph area homes some valuable time,” said Roth.

Roth owns and resides in a two bedroom duplex in the town of Grand Chute, part of the 8th District.

(GREEN BAY, WI) Eighth District Congressional Candidate, Dr. Marc Trager held a press conference on Tuesday announcing his withdrawal from the race against Steve Kagen.

“After much deliberation and council from my family and physician, I have decided to withdraw from the 8th District Congressional race due to health concerns,” said Dr. Trager.  “I am confident we would have been successful in November, but the physical strain of the campaign trail has caused me to step back and evaluate my priorities.”

“I am incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received over the past eight months from all the people who believed in our campaign’s message of fiscal responsibility, individual liberty and political integrity.”

During the press conference, Dr. Trager expressed his support and endorsement for State Representative and 8th District Congressional Candidate Roger Roth.

“Over the past eight months, I have gotten to know Roger well, and I feel that his knowledge, character, and values are what the people of Northeast Wisconsin need,” said Dr. Trager.  Roger carries himself with integrity, and he will be a true representative of the people.  I strongly endorse Roger in his bid to bring common sense, conservative principles back to the 8th District.”

Roth Campaign: NPR Poll proves Kagen is failing

Appleton—National Public Radio has released a poll from key Congressional battleground districts—including Wisconsin’s 8th—and the results do not look promising for Steve Kagen and his Democrat colleagues, who he votes with 98.2 percent of the time.

According to the poll, only 34 percent of respondents said they’d vote to re-elect their incumbent Democrat representative, and 56 percent of respondents said they wouldn’t vote to re-elect their incumbent Democrat representative because they are incapable of fixing Washington.

“Whether it be on healthcare, cap and trade or a number of other issues, Steve Kagen has continually failed the people of northeast Wisconsin,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

“The NPR poll just further validates what I’ve already learned at the 30,000 plus doors we’ve knocked on since December; Steve Kagen isn’t doing his job, and a new broom sweeps best.”

Roth Campaign: Dr. Marc Trager endorses Roger Roth for Congress

Green Bay—Dr. Marc Trager of Green Bay, who has been a leading candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District and has raised some $200,000 for his campaign, has withdrawn from the race due to recent health issues and has endorsed State Representative Roger Roth in his bid for Congress.

Dr. Trager said he has been very impressed with Roth’s dynamic personality and his strong organizational skills.

“Most importantly,” said Trager, “I want to return the 8th District to conservative Republican leadership and Roger Roth is the guy that will make that happen.”

Roth, who graciously accepted the endorsement, said, “Dr. Trager is a great candidate, and he would have made a fine Congressman.  I wish him and his family all the best, and I look forward to fighting alongside him as we work to take back the 8th District and restore common sense, conservative values to northeast Wisconsin.”

Roth Campaign: Kagen insults 8th District voters

Appleton— Congressman Steve Kagen has once again insulted 8th District voters.  This time the insults were lobbed in the liberal enclave of Madison during his address to the State Democrat Convention.

According to wispolitics.com:

But he also said that his constituents are ‘confused,’ and he needs Democrats to help him in the 8th CD.

“They actually believe what they see on TV and think it’s reality,” Kagen said. (Kagen speech at Democrat Convention, June 2010)

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, reacted to Kagen’s insult by saying, “I believe the people of the 8th District are embarrassed enough by the fact that Kagen votes with the liberal majority in Congress 98.2 percent of the time.”

“Kagen doesn’t have to further insult the fine people of northeast Wisconsin by telling them they are confused by his clear record of reckless spending in Congress, gimmicks such as PAY GO and Pelosi’s liberal agenda.”

“The people of the 8th District are not confused; they are intelligent, hardworking people who are fed up with Kagen’s reckless liberal policies.”

Roth Campaign: White House’s solution to jobs problem: throw money at it

Appleton—The Wall Street Journal reported that top White House officials are advocating for more spending to jump start the economy and get Americans working again.

“The $787 billion economic stimulus package has gotten us a 9.7 percent unemployment rate, and the government wants to spend more money?” questioned state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

According to the report, America’s 9.7 percent unemployment rate is “crimping economic output by as much as $1 trillion per year,” and there are now more than five unemployed Americans for every available job.

Carnegie Mellon University economist Allan Meltzer notes, “What they’ve (government) done is not really working.”

“What we need are leaders who will face this problem head on by enacting sensible tax, environmental and immigration policies that will allow the private sector to flourish and get Americans working again.”

Roth Campaign: Kagen soft on Wall Street

Appleton— In Washington, negotiators from the House of Representative and Senate are beginning to iron out their differences on The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (HR 4173) in conference.

State Representative and candidate for Congress Roger Roth is calling on Congress to pass tough new restrictions on the Wall Street firms that caused the financial calamity of the last few years.

“With the Dow reaching rock bottom lows and government spending out of control, Washington needs new leadership that will make the tough decisions necessary to turn our economy around,” said Roth.

Roth added, “Congressman Kagen is so out of touch with the working men and women of the 8th District concerning jobs and the economy.”

One reason for the disconnect could be that Kagen’s campaigns have been financed in part by Wall Street big wigs.

According to the nonpartisan opensecrets.org website, Kagen took thousands of dollars from Jonathan and Robert Soros – leaders of the SOROS FUND, an investment vehicle of famed “short seller” George Soros.

According to news reports:

“George Soros’ hedge fund Soros Asset Management also profited from the collapse of the housing market by betting against CDOs.” (Time, How the Goldman Case Sheds Light on Hedge funds, 4/19/2010)

“Successful shorts, like George Soros’ spectacular attack on the British pound …” (The Atlantic, 9/19/2008)

“As early as the summer of 2006, Goldman’s sales desk began marketing short bets using the ABX index to hedge funds like Paulson & Company, Magnetar and Soros Fund Management, which invests for the billionaire George Soros.” (New York Times, 12/24/09)

Additionally, Democrat super donor Julie Domenick, a former high ranking official for the Wall Street “front group” Investment Company Institute has also had a hand in adding to Kagen’s campaign coffers.

According to the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation, Ms. Domenick hosted a $2,500 per person fundraiser for Kagen on September 23, 2008.

“In northeast Wisconsin, we are facing a $13 trillion debt and near double digit unemployment.  We need a leader and a fighter who will stand up for the people, not the special interests.”

On to November…

Roth Campaign: Debt soon to exceed GDP…anyone surprised?

Appleton—Just days after the national debt surpassed $13 trillion for the first time in American history, the International Monetary Fund is now predicting that our debt will exceed our GDP by 2012.

“Congress has refused to end its addiction to spending, and it has finally brought us to the tipping point,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

When the Greek economy collapsed earlier this year, its debt was at nearly 115 percent of its GDP.

“Elections have consequences, and unless we replace members of Congress like Steve Kagen who spend, spend, spend and then spend some more, it won’t be long before we suffer our own catastrophic economic collapse.”

Roth Campaign: Kagen is not listening

Today in Washington, Congressman Kagen lashed out at Congressional candidate Roger Roth. Roth called out Kagen earlier this week when he said, “Kagen did not hold one town hall meeting during the Congressional recess.

“Is Kagen’s liberal voting and spending record so bad that he can’t defend it in the district?”

Although Kagen said, “It’s simply untrue,” let the record show that he could not cite one town hall meeting.

Roth said, “If we elect the same people to Congress, we’ll get the same results.”

Roth who has listened to voters in all parts of the Fox Valley and the Northwoods said, “It’s time to clean out Congress, a new broom sweeps best.”

“The Country is asking for leaders, not members of Congress who are hiding out behind their almost $300,000 in taxpayer-funded mailings,” Roth added.

On to November…

Roth Campaign: Democrats spend $125 million in attempt to sell healthcare bill

Appleton—With Democrats failing to gain any political traction on the issue of healthcare, former Democrat Senator Tom Daschle (the guy who didn’t get the HHS job because of tax problems) and Vicki Kennedy–wife of the late Senator Ted Kennedy–will co-chair a $125 million propaganda campaign to “persuade” voters that the healthcare bill is good for them.

The campaign is just part of a series of high profile health care reform events commissioned by President Obama in advance of the November elections.

According to Politico, the campaign will last five years and staff 10 to 15 workers at a cost of $15 million per year.

State Representative Roger Roth, who is running for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District said, “No wonder the country is outraged by Congress.  They pass a bill that 60 percent of Americans oppose, and now they’re spending $125 million of hard earned taxpayer dollars in a hopeless propaganda effort to convince voters to buy their product.”

Roth continued, “Congressman Kagen must be replaced, because a new broom sweeps best.”

On to November …

Roth Campaign: EXTRA, EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! WHERE WAS KAGEN?!

Appleton— According to the PAPER OF RECORD–‘Where all the News is Fit to Print’–the New York Times reported yesterday:

“Democrats Skip Town Halls to Avoid Voter Rage”

“The sentiment that fueled the rage during those Congressional forums is still alive in the electorate. But the opportunities for voters to openly express their displeasure, or angrily vent as video cameras roll, have been harder to come by in this election year.

If the time-honored tradition of the political meeting is not quite dead, it seems to be teetering closer to extinction. Of the 255 Democrats who make up the majority in the House, only a handful held town-hall-style forums as legislators spent last week at home in their districts.

It was no scheduling accident.” (NY Times, June 6, 2010)

The people of the 8th District want to know why Congressman Kagen didn’t have any publicly announced town hall meetings on his web site this Memorial Day recess.

How come he didn’t meet with the people in a transparent way?  What is he hiding this election season?

“If Congressman Kagen can’t meet the people of the 8th District in a TRANSPARENT and OPEN way, how can he look himself in the mirror every morning and place his name on the ballot come this November?” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

Roth added, “The Country is asking for leaders, not members of Congress who are hiding out behind their almost $300,000 in taxpayer-funded mailings.”

On to November…

Roth Campaign: Kagen’s vote on cap and trade too extreme even for Senate Democrats

Appleton—This week, Senate Democrats are expected to begin work on climate and energy proposals.  Unlike House Democrats who have passed cap and trade legislation with the help of Steve Kagen, the Senate is expected to keep the two issues separate in fear of raising enery costs.

“Not only are the votes Steve Kagen takes too extreme for northeast Wisconsin, but they are apparently too radical for the Harry Reid led Senate, too,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

Steve Kagen cast his vote in favor of cap and trade legislation even after saying that it will be detrimental to northeast Wisconsin’s farming and manufacturing industries.

“Farming and manufacturing are the lifeblood of northeast Wisconsin, and the people of the 8th District need a representative who recognizes this and will fight for sensible environmental and economic policy so that we can preserve the industries that have made us great.”

Roth Campaign: 150 days to reform

Appleton—With only 150 days between now and election day, State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, is continuing to meet with voters who are fed up with the out of control spending and politics as usual culture that Steve Kagen is promoting in Washington.

“From spending and healthcare to cap and trade, Steve Kagen has failed the people of the 8th District; but now’s the time to get energized, for in 150 days the process of reform and repeal begins,” said Roth.

Steve Kagen promises to uphold fiscal responsibility and Wisconsin values on the campaign trail, but in Washington he has added $230 billion to our national debt in the past three months, proudly cast his vote in favor of ObamaCare, and voted for cap and trade legislation that he admitted would negatively affect northeast Wisconsin’s farming and manufacturing industries.

“Northeast Wisconsin needs a representative who offers sensible policy and is willing to make the tough decisions on spending so that we can get our country back on track, not one who says one thing at home and does another in Washington while falling in line with the Democrat majority 98.2 percent of the time.”

Roth Campaign: Kagen’s record doesn’t match rhetoric

Appleton—During his first run for Congress in 2006, Steve Kagen claimed he would “stand up for true Wisconsin values by balancing the federal budget, putting an end to pork, and enacting strict new spending limits to bring down the record deficits we are inheriting.” What a difference four years make.

“With two terms in office, Steve Kagen has helped push our national debt past the $13 trillion mark, championed hundreds of millions of dollars in pork barrel spending, and continually voted against the will of his constituents on major issues such as health care and cap and trade,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

In the last three months, Steve Kagen has requested $113.7 million in special interest projects and helped add $230 billion to the national debt by ignoring the Democrat’s own Pay-Go standards and voting lock step with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Majority in Congress.

“Record debts, special interest projects and dishonest government aren’t ‘true Wisconsin values,’ and they certainly aren’t the values the people of the 8th District expect from their representative.”

Roth Campaign: Kagen continues to mislead on jobs; ignore growing problem

Appleton—On Friday, the Labor Department is set to release its latest jobs report, and Democrats are already touting an upswing in employment. Problem is, according to economist Mark Zandi at Moody’s, as many as 425,000—or roughly three out of every four—additional jobs in the May report are temporary Census jobs funded by taxpayers.

“Steve Kagen is continuing to ignore our nation’s unemployment rate by hiding behind exaggerated and misleading numbers,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

For northeast Wisconsin citizens facing near double digit unemployment rates, the government’s fabricated statistics aren’t cutting it.

“If Steve Kagen would take the time to talk to the logger in Laona or the welder in Oneida County, he would understand that inflated Labor Department stats mean nothing to the people of the 8th District. What northeast Wisconsin needs is a leader and a fighter who will confront our employment problem head on by focusing on private sector job creation so we can get people working again.”

Roth Campaign: Media exposes Democrat’s Pay-Go scam

Appleton—Last week, ABC News exposed the Democrat’s self-imposed Pay-Go rule for what it really is—massive fraud totaling hundreds of billions of dollars.

“At a time when families are pinching pennies, Steve Kagen and the Pelosi led Congress are spending hundreds of billions of dollars, and they are misleading the American people along the way,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

According to the ABC News report, Congress has added $230 billion to the national debt over the past three months, classifying most of it as “emergency spending” in order to evade their own ‘pay as you go’ standards.

What does this emergency spending entail? $15 million in aid to the Congo and $54 million in tax breaks for TV and movie production among others.

“In northeast Wisconsin, we are faced with near double digit unemployment and a national debt that has reached $13 trillion and is threatening to bankrupt our children and grandchildren, and what is Congress doing? Spending millions to make movies.”

“This is proof that Steve Kagen has completely lost touch with the 8th District.”

Roth Campaign: Will Kagen step up and lead or continue to follow?

Appleton—With Congress set to return to Washington following their Memorial Day Recess, the people of the 8th District are wondering if Steve Kagen will step up and lead on issues important to northeast Wisconsin such as jobs, spending and immigration, or if he will continue to fall in line with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Majority.

“The people of northeast Wisconsin are looking for a leader and a fighter to represent them in Washington and make the tough decisions on the issues that matter to them,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

Northeast Wisconsin citizens are faced with near double digit unemployment, a national debt that has reached a staggering $13 trillion and a porous southern border that is threatening both our economy and our national security.

“Kagen and the Democrats in Congress have spent the past year and a half mortgaging the future of our country by chasing after reckless spending projects and ignoring the issues that matter.  The 8th District is in desperate need of a Congressman who will make it a priority to advance private sector job creation, reign in spending and balance the federal budget, and secure our nation’s southern border.”

Roth Campaign: Memorial Day statement

Appleton–State Representative Roger Roth released the following statement today thanking members of our military who have made the ultimate sacrifice:

“As Americans, we benefit from a distinctive brand of freedom which makes us the envy of the world, fully absent the authoritarianism and oppression that has so often plagued the rest of the globe.  Like anything worthwhile, the freedom we enjoy had to be earned; and it has only been made possible by the brave men and women who have given their lives on the battlefields of Lexington and Concord to Iraq and Afghanistan so that we can all continue to live free and prosper.

It is with a thankful heart that I direct my thoughts, prayers and gratitude to all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great republic over the last 233 years.”

Roth Campaign: Kagen returns home to reality

Appleton— Because current 8th District Congressman Steve Kagen prefers to hide behind Nancy Pelosi, unannounced town hall meetings and listening sessions and the 900 miles that separate his district from Washington, the Roth Campaign is delivering a 10 point reality check to northeast Wisconsin citizens who want to know the real Steve Kagen as he returns home for the Memorial Day Recess:

  1. Kagen has earned a ‘0’ rating from the National Right to Life Committee
  2. Kagen has earned a ‘0’ rating from Americans for Tax Reform
  3. Kagen has a dismal 7% rating from the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union
  4. Kagen has an equally sorry 8% rating from Citizens Against Government Waste
  5. Kagen claims he’s for Pay-Go, yet the debt has risen to a staggering $13 trillion under his watch
  6. Kagen said he’s for main street, yet he’s taken campaign cash from top executives at Soros Fund Management—a company that profited from the collapse of the housing market by betting against collateralized debt obligations
  7. Kagen voted with the Democrat majority in Congress 98.2 percent of the time
  8. Kagen voted for Cap and Trade legislation that will cripple northeast Wisconsin’s farming and manufacturing industries—even after going on record as saying he wouldn’t!
  9. Kagen voted to raise the debt ceiling to $14 trillion
  10. Kagen proudly proclaimed to have written ObamaCare which raises premiums by 13 percent and creates $120 billion in new taxes and $311 billion in new spending

Roth Campaign: Kagen fooling no one! The Pay-Go gig is up!

Appleton—As the nation’s debt reaches a staggering $13 trillion, Steve Kagen and Democrats in Washington are continuing to ignore their own self-imposed pay as you go standards by taking up legislation this week that will burden taxpayers with $134 billion in unfunded spending.

“It’s time Congress lives up to the promise they made to the American people that they will pay as they go. Kagen and our Congress are considering borrowing another $134 billion today to fuel their addiction for spending,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the package raises only $40 billion in revenue, falling way short of the bill’s $174 billion price tag and leaving taxpayers to foot the $134 billion difference.

A vote for this legislation by Congressman Kagen would fall directly in line with his dismal 7% rating from the non-partisan National Taxpayer’s Union and his equally sorry 8% rating from Citizens Against Government Waste.

“Kagen and the Democrats in Congress have learned that they can label anything “Emergency Spending” and bypass their own rules, but the people of northeast Wisconsin know better. Until we elect leaders who will make the tough decisions and stop the culture of entitlements and spending, we are going to be burdening generation after generation with crippling debt.”

Roth Campaign: Congress and president drop ball on gulf’s oil crisis

Appleton—With as many as 5000 barrels of oil gushing from the Gulf each day, the Obama Administration and congress have entered into the blame game rather than taking charge of the situation and leading like they were elected to do.

“We are faced with a disaster in the Gulf that threatens to negatively affect our nation’s ecosystem for decades, and all the president and congress have done is grandstand and lay blame,” said state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District.

Nearly a month after the spill, President Obama and congress have done nothing but flip flop their positions regarding who is responsible for the mess instead of working towards a solution to this ongoing national crisis.

When government officials such as Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal have attempted to lead by proposing solutions such as sand barriers, they have been stonewalled by the federal government and ordered to stand pat.

“I am calling on the president and congress to use the resources of the federal government in conjunction with the Gulf States and the oil industry to band together and work towards a solution to this crisis before it’s too late.”

“It’s time that the federal government moves past pointing fingers and shuffling blame and steps up to lead so we can save both the Gulf States and our nation’s ecosystem from further catastrophic damage.”

Roth Campaign: Military asks for more troops, Washington dithers; military asks for more time to review DADT Policy, Washington moves full speed ahead

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement concerning congress’ decision to move forward with altering the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy before the Pentagon can complete its internal review:

“I support the current DOD policy; a policy that has not prevented our military from maintaining its status as the world’s supreme fighting force. The time to examine the admission standards of our armed forces is not and shouldn’t be while we’re fighting on multiple fronts in the ongoing global war on terror.

I find it troubling that when our military leaders asked for more troops to effectively wage war in Afghanistan, it took months of dithering before making a decision, but now when the military has requested more time to review its DADT Policy, Washington steams ahead at full speed.”

Roth Campaign: Statement on unemployment numbers

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement concerning the federal government’s announcement that jobless claims rose last week by 25,000:

“The fact that our nation saw an increase of 25,000 unemployment claims last week is further proof that Washington is failing to get our struggling economy back on track.  Elections have consequences, and it is imperative that we elect representatives in November who will focus on private sector job creation and economic growth; not ones who will continue to promote the expansion of our federal government and an entitlement society.”

Roth Campaign: Instead of attacking Arizona, Washington should confront growing illegal immigration problem

State Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement concerning Arizona’s newly passed immigration law:

For years, Arizona and other border states have been overwhelmed by the influx of violence and drugs which continue to spill across our nation’s southern border.  In response to this alarming trend, the people of Arizona have banded together and said ‘This has to stop!’

Though Washington and pundits nationwide have been quick to dismiss the law as unnecessary, over the top and even racist, the people of Arizona have the right to stand up and come together to protect the well-being of their citizens and their state.

Where Arizonans deserve credit, the federal government deserves blame.

If Washington would have protected our porous border, we wouldn’t be having this conversation in the first place.

When we have a secure and protected border, we can then undertake meaningful discussion about our nation’s growing illegal immigration problem.

If elected, I will work tirelessly to protect our southern border and enact sensible, responsible immigration policy that will allow us to promote legal immigration and deny access to those who want to come to our country to sell drugs, run guns and cause harm.

Roth for Congress Headquarters opens with wave of supporters

Appleton—On Thursday, state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, and over 70 volunteers and supporters officially opened the Roth for Congress Campaign Headquarters at 1033 W. College Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin.

“It was incredibly moving and motivating to have so many volunteers and supporters take time out of their busy schedules to come and officially kick off the campaign season on a windy and rainy Thursday night,” said Roth.

“The turnout we had is indicative of the hunger that exists in northeast Wisconsin for a return to common sense, conservative leadership out in Washington.”

While speaking to his supporters, Roth thanked the group for having the will to get involved and do something about the troubling direction our country is headed in.

“America has reached a crisis point.  We must control our spending and focus on real, private sector job creation, or we will experience a Greek Tragedy like that which is taking place in Europe here at home.”

The Roth for Congress Campaign HQ houses office space where volunteers will hit the streets for campaigning, make phone calls and assist in mailings from.  It is located on the corner of West College Avenue and Summit Street.

Roth Campaign: Democrats continue to ignore Pay-Go

Eagle River—The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010, also known as Cash for Caulkers, was passed by the Democrat controlled House last week at a cost of $5.7 billion.

Considering the debt that Washington continues to force on Wisconsin kids and grandkids, state Representative Roger Roth, candidate for congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, delivered the following remarks to a group of voters in Eagle River last weekend weekend:

“Since the passage of Pay-Go, Steve Kagen and the Democrat majority in congress, who he votes with 98.2 percent of the time, have repeatedly ignored Pay-Go and passed debt-increasing legislation like the ‘Cash for Caulkers’ program.”

At a time when the U.S. is facing trillion dollar debts, the decision to continue down the path of uncontrollable spending is reckless and irresponsible.  Representative Roth has taken this message with him as he travels the 8th District, listening to the concerns of voters.

“As I talk to the people of this district at their doors, at brat frys and at pancake breakfasts, they tell me that Washington has lost touch with Wisconsin values and that Congressman Kagen does not listen to his constituents.”

Roth: HHS report echoes what 8th District voters have been saying for months

Just weeks after President Obama signed the massive health spending bill into law, experts at the Department of Health and Human Services have released a report which shows that, contrary to the claims of Congress, Obamacare will increase government spending over the next ten years.

“The report projected that Medicare cuts could drive about 15 percent of hospitals and other institutional providers into the red, “possibly jeopardizing access” to care for seniors.” (Associated Press, April 22, 2010 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100423/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_law_costs)

In response, Representative Roger Roth, a candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th District, released the following statement:

“Now that the bill is signed into law, the government has finally admitted what you and I already knew.  We knew that Obamacare did little to address out-of-control costs in our health care system; we knew that Obamacare would greatly increase government spending; and most importantly, we knew we didn’t want it.

In a classic case of politics-as-usual, Congressman Kagen followed the lead of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and also the Democrat Majority in Congress who he votes with 98.2 percent of the time.  Congressman Kagen cast his vote in favor of a health spending bill that a majority of northeast Wisconsinites told him they wanted no part of by sending thousands of letters, e-mails, telephone calls, and at well-attended town hall listening sessions.

“If the majority of voters in Northeastern Wisconsin didn’t want Congressman Kagen to vote for this bill, who did?”
“Come November 2, this district will elect a representative to the 8th District who listens to the voters of northeast Wisconsin.”

Roth Campaign: What Congressman Kagen Won’t Tell You…

Appleton— On April 16th the most liberal paper in the state, the Capitol Times, wrote: “Consider where [State Representative] Roth and [Congressman] Kagen placed their energies this week.”

What was Congressman Kagen up to on April 14 while state Representative Roger Roth was working to protect voter integrity in the Capitol in Madison?

The paper asserted that Congressman Kagen was meeting with high level Administration officials. Yet, what the editorial left out, was that Kagen was “partying” at the home of a well known “Super Democrat Donor.”

According to The Hill Newspaper, “The Washington Scene,” Congressman Kagen was attending a party at Democrat Super Fundraiser Julie Domenick’s House on 4/14/10.

Democrat lobbyist Domenick has told the National Journal, “I don’t know how you separate the fundraising from the legislating.”

“It’s the proverbial chicken-and-the-egg [question],” Domenick says. “Do people know you because you give money? Or do you give money so people will know you? There’s no bright line.” (National Journal, 12/7/2007)

This is not the first time Congressman Kagen has been to Democratic Super Donor Domenick’s House. According to the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation, Ms. Domenick hosted a fundraiser seeking contributions as large as $2,500 per person for Kagen on September 23, 2008.

So while State Representative Roger Roth was fighting to stop egregious legislation that will greatly expand voter fraud in Wisconsin, Kagen was hobnobbing with the Washington DC elite.

Roth Campaign: Cap Times Nervous Roth Will Win 8th Congressional District

Green Bay—On Friday, April 16th, the Capital Times published an editorial titled “While GOP foe dithers, Kagen fights for farmers.” The editorial—which was chalked full of half-truths and political rhetoric—set out to cut down Representative Roth for fighting for the rights of Wisconsin voters in the State Assembly while making a laughable attempt at portraying Congressman Kagen as pro-farmer.

Because Representative Roth was never contacted by the Capital Times and was given no chance to explain his positions or speak for himself, he sent the following letter to the editor of the that paper:

Dear Editor,

As a two-term State Legislator who has fought for the rights of voters and farmers alike, I think it is imperative that I address the dishonest, political rhetoric which recently appeared in the editorial pages of this newspaper. I find it odd that this commentary was written without any effort made to contact me.

First and foremost, I am and have always been a staunch opponent of voter intimidation and suppression. My disdain for unfair elections and my firm belief in the principal of “one person, one vote” are the exact reasons I stand one hundred percent against AB 895, which will greatly expand voter fraud in our state while diminishing citizens’ ability to prove any wrongdoing.

Among the bill’s numerous flaws are:
–there is nothing to protect the integrity of our vote; true election reform requires voter identification at the polls;
–the establishment of multiple satellite voting locations for early voting with no limits on where those sites are located and when they operate;
–this bill will expand Wisconsin’s voter list with Department of Motor Vehicle and other state lists which could increase the likelihood of fraud;
–imposes fines of up to $100,000 for voter suppression and intimidation, but only charges up to $10,000 for someone who casts a fraudulent ballot. Under this bill, “suppressing” votes is punishable by a $100,000 fine, but stealing someone’s vote apparently only warrants a $10,000 fine!!!

Secondly, it is laughable that your recent editorial states that current 8th District Congressman Steve Kagen is “fighting to protect Wisconsin’s dairy farms and the tens of thousands of jobs associated with them.”

Really?

Then why did he cast his vote against estate tax reform heavily favored by farmers that passed the Democrat-run Congress last year? Why didn’t he and Congress stand up to the EPA last month when that agency announced that greenhouse gas emission permits will now be needed by many farmers who have never been a part of that costly process before? And why did he vote in favor of Cap and Trade legislation—after explicitly telling his constituents he would do otherwise—that dairy farmers in Wisconsin know will cripple their industry?

Congressman Kagen is correct when he says that “Wisconsin dairy farm families can compete and win against anyone in the world, provided there is a level playing field.” The problem is, Cap and Trade, the new greenhouse gas permits, and the resurrection of the full estate tax next year will further hurt our farmer’s abilities to compete.

Not only am I fighting hard to protect the basic precept in our democracy of “one person, one vote,” but I can’t wait to go to Washington to really help our farmers and other citizens who’ve been hurt by the policies being handed down to us from Washington.

Thank you for your interest in the 8th Congressional District. Call anytime or send an email to save the long distance call.

Sincerely,

Representative Roger Roth

Roth Campaign: Congressman Kagen Threatens Life Issues

Green Bay—On Saturday, April 17, Representative Roger Roth, candidate in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, met with hundreds of Northeast Wisconsin citizens concerned with Congressman Steve Kagen’s blatant disregard for life issues at the A&A Alexandrina Center’s annual Spring Gala.

“Our current Congressman, Steve Kagen, votes 98.2 percent of the time in lockstep with a Democrat Majority in Congress led by Speaker Pelosi who have shown absolutely zero interest in protecting the rights of the unborn,” said Roth.

Congressman Kagen has consistently earned a dismal zero percent rating from the National Right to Life Committee by taking votes against legislation such as the ‘Stupak Amendment’ which would have prohibited the use of federal funds “to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion” except in cases of rape, incest or danger to the life of the mother.

“In talking with hundreds of individuals and families from Green Bay and the surrounding area, it is clear to me that the values of the 8th District and the values of Congressman Kagen just don’t add up,” Roth said.

“We need to restore a common-sense, conservative Congressman to the 8th District who understands that all human life is sacred and who will fight to protect those ideals.”

Roth Campaign: 200 Days to Victory

Appleton—After raising more money in 30 days than any other challenger to Steve Kagen was able to over the final three months of 2009, the Roth Campaign continues to gain financial backing, raising $53,000 in the first quarter of 2010 with $77,000 cash on hand.

“With well over 500 contributors from a wide range of professions and backgrounds, our funding comes from teachers, doctors, blue collar workers, small business people and retirees,” Roth said.

“Not only are we raising money from hundreds of gracious donors who are sick and tired of politicians like Steve Kagen who say one thing at home and do another out in Washington, but we have a grassroots ground game that will be hard for Steve Kagen to match.”

“We have the resources, the issues, name recognition, organization, experience and the volunteers to defeat Steve Kagen on November 2nd and return commonsense government to Washington.”

“Steve Kagen, his special interest friends and the Democrat Party may try and outspend us, but they will never outwork us.”

Roth Campaign: Congressman Kagen Facilitates $670 Billion in Tax Increases

Appleton—As Americans nationwide flock to the post office to send off their tax returns, Representative Roger Roth, candidate in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, rebuked Democrats in Congress for increasing taxes by $670 billion since January, 2009.

“Our current Congressman, Steve Kagen, votes 98.2 percent of the time in lockstep with a Democrat Majority in Congress led by Speaker Pelosi, and what has it gotten us? $670 billion in tax increases,” said Roth.

In 2009, the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union gave Steve Kagen a paltry 7% rating.
“Steve Kagen claims he is an independent voice in Congress, but the percentages just don’t add up,” Roth said.

“We need to restore a common-sense, conservative Congressman to the 8th District who knows how to budget and understands the burden of excessively high tax rates.”

Reckless Spending – Budget deficit continues for 18th Straight month – Thanks to Congressman Kagen and friends!!!

State Representative Roger Roth speaking in Kaukauna said, “What the liberals in Congress are not disclosing to the people back home is that thanks to their SPENDING, SPENDING, SPENDING March was the 18th straight month of deficit spending.”

“This year alone the deficit is up to RECORD $651 billion dollars, said Roth.

He went on to state that, “Kagen and his liberal friends are paving our way to financial bankruptcy.”

According to our governments own reporting our fiscal deficits of 2010 are far exceeding 2009, which was a record year.

Kagen, Pelosi, Reid and their friends are on a RECORD spending spree that many in Washington claim cannot be stopped.

Roger Roth said, “We will return this government back to representing the people.”
Roth told the crowd that the American people will determine our destiny, “That’s why we have elections, he said.”

Roth Campaign: Happy Tax Freedom Day!

With tax rates nationwide set to skyrocket if Democrats in Congress follow through with their plan to allow existing tax cuts to expire, State Representative Roger Roth,  a candidate in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, wished all Wisconsinites a Happy Tax Freedom Day on Monday.

“While in Wisconsin we already have to wait three days longer than the average American to achieve freedom from the tax rolls, the sad reality is that if Steve Kagen and Democrats in Congress have their way, citizens nationwide will be waiting well into the summer months before they are able to keep all of their hard earned income,” said Roth.

According to the non-partisan Tax Foundation, the date on which Wisconsinites will have worked long enough to have earned enough money to pay this year’s tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels fell on Monday, April 12.  The average date for all Americans was Friday, April 9.

“Unless we elect leaders to Congress who understand what it takes to budget and save rather than tax and spend, America is going to continue down the long, dark road of financial ruin,” Roth said.

Roth on Healthcare Vote: Repeal and Replace

At a time of record deficits and near 10 percent unemployment, Congress has forced a trillion dollar health care bill on the American people amidst claims that it will actually save the country money and improve care. Only in Washington could such an argument be deemed credible.

Following a week of backroom deals and partisan arm twisting, House Democrats voted late Sunday in favor of a government takeover of health care.

“I will work from day one in Washington to repeal this bill and replace it with meaningful healthcare reform that will actually lower healthcare costs, improve patient care and help curb frivolous malpractice suits,” said Representative Roger Roth, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

“What transpired Sunday evening in Washington was an assault on the American people and small businesses nationwide, and it will result in even more tax increases and unfunded mandates in Northeast Wisconsin,” said Roth.

Roth Campaign: Slaughter the Bill, Not the Constitution

Congressman Steve Kagen, who seems to have decided to hide behind Speaker Pelosi, President Obama and the 900 some miles between the 8th District and Washington, DC, might now get a chance to skirt all responsibility granted him by voters in NE Wisconsin should Democrats in Congress move ahead with the proposed “Slaughter Solution.”

“The Democrats want to push through legislation they know is not right for America, and they plan to do it secretly so that when it backfires they won’t get blamed,” said State Representative Roger Roth, a candidate for congress from the WI 8th.  “This move is the exact reason the people of the 8th District are sick and tired of politics as usual in Washington.  The problem with the ‘Slaughter Solution’ is that it is unconstitutional.  The Constitution says that a bill MUST pass both houses of congress before the President can sign it into law; not just ‘deemed’ to have passed it.”

Under the “Slaughter Solution,” which is known also as ‘deem and pass,’ house democrats would be allowed to pass the senate version of the health care bill, which included the infamous “Cornhusker Kickback” and “Louisiana Purchase,” without actually voting on it, sparing Steve Kagen and other members of Congress from the kind of tough vote they were elected to take.

“Rep. Kagen talks about wanting more transparency in government.  Where is that transparency in a move like this?” Roth added.  “The people of the United States, and particularly the 8th District, deserve to know how their representative votes on each and every issue.”

“There is no question that our health care system is in need of reform.  Unfortunately, the bill that Nancy Pelosi, Steve Kagen and Liberals in Washington are now trying to ram down the throats of Americans with shameful, underhanded and unconstitutional political parlor tricks like the “Slaughter Solution,” does not address the real problems facing our health care system including affordability and frivolous malpractice suits.”

Roger Roth is a lifelong resident of Appleton, Wisconsin.  He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and participates in his family’s third-generation construction business.

Roth: Where’s the transparency now?

APPLETON – Rep. Roger Roth is speaking out against the possibility that members of the House could pass the $875 billion health care bill without having to tell voters how they voted.

House Republicans currently are trying to block Speaker Nancy Pelosi from using a legislative trick that would allow rank-and-file Democrats to pass the health care bill without really voting for the health care bill.

“The Democrats want to push through legislation they know is not right for America, and they plan to do it secretly so that when it backfires they won’t get blamed,” Roger Roth said. “This move is the exact reason people of the 8th District are sick and tired of politics as usual in Washington.”

House Republicans plan to introduce a resolution that would require an “up-or-down” vote in the House on the Senate-approved health care plan, to ensure everyone goes on the record as for or against the bill.

“Rep. Kagen talks about wanting more transparency in government. Where is that transparency in a move like this?” Roth added. “The people of the United States, and particularly the 8th District, deserve to know how their representative votes on each and every issue.”

Roth: Will Congressman Kagen remember his ‘listening sessions’ last year or vote with the president?

According to a New York Times article, dated March 14,2010, “Millions Spent to Sway Democrats on Health Care”:

“The health care debate is unfolding against the backdrop of an already difficult political year for Democrats. The White House has signaled to lawmakers that assistance for midterm elections — for example, presidential visits and fund-raisers — will be prioritized for those who support the bill.”

The people of the 8th District want to know if Congressman Kagen, who claimed to have written the House health care legislation, will be swayed politically by the White House, said State Representative Roger Roth.
